Lessons

Lydia offers private music lessons in Port Macquarie tailored to suit each individual child.

Lesson time is variable, but the preference is for ¾ hour per lesson at a fixed time each week. A timetable is developed in conjunction student and carers prior to the start of the school year. The timetable runs concurrently with the public school term. Lessons will finish at their scheduled time, regardless of start time.

Practice

Students who practice regularly and often enjoy music and lessons more than students who
do not practice. Students also progress much faster when regular practice occurs. It is the parent’s
responsibility to ensure the student has the opportunity and ability to practice at home, and it is the
student's responsibility to actually practice! The teacher’s role is to choose engaging material and to
teach practice strategies appropriate to the student’s age and level.

Fees

Fees are charged at $40/half hour, invoiced at the end of each term, and payable within 14 days by direct deposit. Lessons will not be charged if the teacher misses a lesson, or if the student is sick and notice is given. Missed lessons for other reasons will not be made up. Non-payment of lessons will result a suspension of further lessons until the balance is made up. If the balance is still outstanding after one month, the lesson place will be forfeited.

Exams and Competitions

Students may sit for exams held by an external body such as AMEB or Con Brio exams. Before being entered for an exam, students must prove their willingness to study (practice) and their emotional readiness. The exam result reflects both on the student and the teacher, and it can be detrimental for students to have a bad experience. This also applies to Eisteddfods and other competitions. If you would like your child to enter an exam or competition, please contact me to arrange a time to discuss this.

Sheet Music

If purchase of sheet music is required, the teacher will contact the student and/or carer with any necessary information. It is up to the student and their family to purchase music. All effort will be made to keep costs down within legal parameters.
